President Donald Trump has proposed sending direct payments of at least $2,000 to Americans, funded through revenue collected from his administration’s tariffs on foreign goods.

The president discussed the idea on Sunday in a post on Truth Social , describing the payments as a dividend to the public.

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! A dividend of at least $2,000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone,” Trump stated.

Key details remain unclear, including who would qualify for the payments and when they could be distributed.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a Sunday interview on ABC News’s “This Week” that no formal plan exists at this time.

Bessent also suggested the relief could take different forms, indicating they may not be dire
