A crowd gathered Monday night along Welch Road to remember three teenagers killed in a crash early Sunday morning, creating an emotional scene marked by sobs, prayers and quiet embraces.
The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the victims as 17-year-olds Enrique Sabas and Julio Lopez, and 13-year-old Leyner Velasquez.
The three were among six people inside a pickup truck that lost control at a curve on Welch Road around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The truck veered off the roadway, killing the teens and injuring the others.
On Monday night, family members, classmates and friends stood along the same stretch of road, supporting one another as they placed candles, offered prayers and mourned the sudden loss.
"He was my baby. He was 17 years old," said Johanna Lopez, the mother of Julio Lopez.
