HOOVER, Ala. —
Hoover is experiencing leadership changes after former Police Chief Nick Derzis became mayor.
Assistant Police Chief Norman McDuffey was appointed as interim police chief.
McDuffey has been with the department since 2001, after starting his career in Birmingham.
The city also reappointed Fire Chief Clay Bentley to his role, and decided to keep Robert Yeager as the city's treasurer through the rest of the year.
Terica Henderson has been named the new city magistrate.
Mayor Derzis emphasized the importance of filling these roles, whether permanent or interim, to help the city thrive.
"As we said we wanted to hit the ground running, which we've done," Derzis said. "We've got a lot of positive things in the pipeline right now so I feel real good. I feel we're ahead of the
