KENNEWICK, Wash. – Kennewick will honor veterans with a special ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at Columbia Park. The event will begin with the raising of the flag at 11 a.m.

Veterans Day, which became a federal holiday in 1938 and was renamed in 1954 to honor all U.S. veterans, is a day to recognize those who have served or are currently serving in the military.

As a federal holiday, many services will be closed, including banks, post offices and city facilities.

Residents are encouraged to attend the ceremony to show their support and appreciation for veterans in the community.
