PENTWATER, Mich. — The impact of the blast of lake effect winter weather on Monday was felt across the lakeshore.

The packed snow and slick conditions on U.S. 31 even took some people off the road.

Grand Haven resident Tim Olson was on a hunting trip in the area and traveled on the highway.

“There's a lot of snow on the roads," Olson said. "But there were two plows, one got on right before me at the hard exit and so the roads were fine, one lane, at least, all the way up to here.”

As travel became increasingly difficult on U.S. 31 throughout Monday, the folks in the town of Pentwater braced for the first big lake effect snow of the season.

Some residents, like Shannon Kramer, also had to face driving on U.S. 31 before getting home.
