PINEVILLE, La. (KALB) - On Monday, November 10, the Pineville City Council voted to schedule a tentative special meeting for December 16 to discuss the potential condemnation of 15 properties within city limits.
Pineville Mayor Joe Bishop describes the city’s move as part of a heightened push to clear blight and promote safety as colder weather approaches, citing potential homeless activity as a concern.
“That’s one of my main goals, okay...is to clean up the city of Pineville,” Bishop explained. “It’s wintertime...and people are trying to stay warm and build a fire, [...] it endangers their life and also the neighbor that [the] house is sitting next to.”
Additionally, the mayor hinted that potential economic growth could stem from the condemnation and removal of blighted land, saying
