BOONE COUNTY, Indiana — A community is demanding justice for a 32-year-old mother who was shot and killed outside a home in Whitestown after police say she went to the wrong address to clean as part of her job.
Family and friends of María Florinda Ríos Pérez gathered Monday night on the steps of the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office to remember her life and call for accountability.
The crowd lit candles, sang hymns and prayed for comfort.
"Father, we also ask you for those people, Lord, who unfortunately took Maria's life, Lord, because we know that in some way their minds are troubled, their hearts are troubled," said a pastor in Spanish.
Pérez’s husband, Mauricio Velásquez, said his wife was kind, hardworking and faithful and that their family just wants answers.
