A mobile lounge crashed while shuttling passengers at Washington Dulles International Airport on Monday afternoon, the airport said, on a day when major airports around the country continued to grapple with government shutdown-related disruptions.
The elevated, bus-like vehicle was transporting passengers to Concourse D when it struck the dock at an angle as it pulled up to a building at around 4:30 p.m., Dulles Airport said on social media. At least 18 people were transported to a hospital, all with non-life-threatening injuries, said the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which oversees the airport.
Dulles Airport said it remained open and “operating as normal” as of early Monday evening.
Video footage aired by local broadcasters showed multiple ambulances and fire trucks par
