ASHLAND, Wis. (Northern News Now) - Ashland native, Heidi Brabon, honors her late father ahead of the 50th anniversary of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
One of the 29 members of the Edmund Fitzgerald was Blaine Wilhelm. He was an oiler on the ship when it went down back on November 10, 1975.
Brabon grew up in Ashland, Wisconsin, and says every year she honors her father by attending remembrance ceremonies. She was just 12 years old when her father’s ship sank in Lake Superior.
This year, she’s traveling to Whitefish Point, Michigan. She says she wants to be near the wreckage site to be closer to her dad.
While everyone commemorates the anniversary one day a year, she says missing her father is part of her everyday life.
