MEDINA, Ohio – Early next year Ward 4 councilor Jim Shields will be sworn in as the city’s next mayor.
According to final but unofficial results from the Medina County Board of Elections Shields defeated Council President John Coyne in the mayoral race, receiving 3,235 votes (54.93 percent) while Coyne received 2,654 votes (45.07 percent).
Shields said he is very honored and humbled to follow Dennis Hanwell as Medina’s next mayor.
“He set the standard for effective leadership, and I want to continue that same style of leadership,” Shields said. “I am grateful to the Medina voters who put their faith in me to take care of Medina and its residents.
