Residents in northern Idaho face potentially unhealthy levels of air pollution early Tuesday, a live map from AirNow shows.
The map shows that levels of fine particle (PM2.5) pollution are in the "unhealthy" category across an area encompassing the towns of Pinehurst, Kellogg, Osburn, Smelterville, and Cataldo.
At these air quality levels, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends that sensitive groups limit or avoid strenuous outdoor activities and consider moving or rescheduling them indoors.
Officials and experts say that deteriorating air quality heightens health risks for vulnerable populations , such as older adults, children and individuals with respiratory illnesses.
