A pedestrian was killed when struck by an Amtrak passenger train in Wayne County on Nov. 10, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said that the pedestrian was hit by an oncoming train just east of the overpass near Franklin Street in Lyons around 4:45 p.m. The fatal incident occurred on the south track and the train - which carried 141 passengers - was traveling at 79 mph at the time.
Amtrak operators told authorities that the pedestrian was walking south in the area of the railroad tracks and was not in an area designated for pedestrians or crossing, deputies said.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office. The pedestrian's name was not released, pending notification of family.
