The Department of Justice is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to toss out the corruption conviction against former Cincinnati City Councilman PG Sittenfeld.
Sittenfeld was found guilty of bribery and attempted extortion in 2022. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison . Advertisement
President Trump pardoned him in May of this year. The pardon came after Sittenfeld tried and failed to appeal his conviction last year.
According to the Supreme Court brief, Sittenfeld expressed concern that the pardon does not return the $40,000 in fines that he had to pay or eliminate "collateral consequences" of his conviction.
The brief also says the DOJ is willing to return the fine to Sittenfeld.
WLWT is working to learn when the Supreme Court could make a decision on this appeal.
