New Delhi: ISRO successfully conducted an Integrated Main Parachute Test (IMAT) for the Gaganyaan programme , an ambitious attempt to lift humans to Earth orbit using domestic hardware and returning them safely back to the ground. The test was a coordinated effort by ISRO, DRDO, the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army. The main parachutes for the Gaganyaan crew module was tested at the Babina Field Firing Range (BFFR) in Jhansi, UP on 03 November, 2025. The test is a part of IMATs to qualify the complex parachute system for the Gaganyaan Missions, which use a series of 10 parachutes to shed velocity of the crew module following its reentry at the end of a mission.
