WESTLAKE, Ohio (WOIO) - Commercial property owners, tenants, and management companies can now be charged if police officers respond to a false alarm.

Westlake City Council members recently passed the ordinance which would charge owners $100 for the first false alarm.

Fines increase each time officers respond.

Westlake police said most of the alarm drops are false and cutting down on unnecessary responses will “increase the efficiency and effectiveness” of their operations.

A crime prevention expert is available to assess the property. If interested, please contact Special Operations LT. Jason Dancy (jdancy@westlakepolice.us).
