Quebec Labour Minister Jean Boulet plans to move up the implementation of a law that would allow him to order striking STM workers off picket lines and back onto the job, the Journal de Montréal and Radio-Canada reported Tuesday.
Law 14, passed this spring as Bill 89, gives the Quebec labour minister the ability to issue a back-to-work order without passing special legislation. But the law wasn’t set to take effect until Nov. 30.
Boulet plans to move up the bill’s implementation by tabling a new bill Wednesday and passing it through an accelerated timeline, reports say.
