Steven Gerrard could reignite his managerial career as the successor to Rob Edwards at Middlesbrough.

That's according to talkSPORT's Ally McCoist just weeks after Gerrard turned down the opportunity to return to Rangers .

The Liverpool legend looked set to replace Russell Martin at Ibrox but pulled out of talks amid his doubts over the timing of the move.

Gerrard, who won the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership title as Rangers boss, later admitted it felt 'a bit rushed' .

He hasn't been in the dugout since leaving Al Ettifaq in January, but there are opportunities for a comeback in the Championship .

Edwards is set to leave Middlesbrough for Wolves , whilst Norwich City sacked Liam Manning and Southampton dismissed Will Still .
