Democrats blinked, and gave President Donald Trump the votes he needed to throw 17 million people off health care, and roughly double the premiums for 20 million more who rely on Obamacare subsidies.
Trump learned that in a showdown, he’s the tougher player, that Democrats are divided, and that he can exploit those divisions to get what he wants.
And let’s be honest, Democrats got squat in return — a December vote on the Obamacare subsidies in the Senate that will be pure theater, and a promise that federal employees can go back to work with full pay, as if the shutdown had never happened. No ground was gained.
But please, Democrats, cheer up. Yes, this is a short-term win for Trump and his cruelty, and millions of good people will suffer as a result. And it’s deflating to the grassroot
