It’s one of the coldest mornings Sarasota has seen all year , with temperatures hovering around 39 degrees at 8:30 and a silvery-blue sky hanging low over downtown as the city readies for its annual Veterans Day celebration .

Wisps of clouds drift across the bay, the sunlight soft and thin, casting a frosty glow on the streets below. In just a few hours, Sarasota’s Veterans Day parade and ceremony honoring local veterans will fill downtown, closing streets and adjusting city and county schedules.

The annual Veterans Day parade , hosted by the City of Sarasota and the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee, will begin at 10 a.m. today, Nov. 11, at Main Street and Orange Avenue. The procession will travel west and end at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park at Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue,
