Exit polls indicate a significant victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Bihar Assembly elections, with predictions suggesting they will secure over 130 seats. The ruling alliance, led by the Janata Dal (United) and including the Bharatiya Janata Party and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), is projected to win between 133 and 167 seats, surpassing the majority mark of 122. In contrast, the opposition Mahagathbandhan, which includes the Rashtriya Janata Dal, Congress, and Left parties, is expected to secure only 70 to 101 seats.
The Matrize agency forecasts the NDA will win 147-167 seats, while Dainik Bhaskar estimates 145-160 seats for the NDA and 73-91 for the Mahagathbandhan. The Jan Suraaj Party, led by Prashant Kishor, is anticipated to perform poorly, with projections of 0-5 seats. Other parties may secure 2-8 seats according to various polls.
Voter turnout for the elections was reported at 67.14% in the second phase, with Kishanganj district recording the highest turnout at 76.26%. The elections were held in two phases on November 6 and 11, and the results will be announced on November 14.
The NDA's potential return to power is attributed to various factors, including Nitish Kumar's Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, which aims to provide financial support to women. Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav's promises of government jobs for families may not have resonated strongly in a state facing high unemployment and poverty.
As the NDA looks to secure a historic third term for Nitish Kumar, the Mahagathbandhan faces challenges in translating its promises into votes. The exit polls reflect a clear divide in voter sentiment, with the NDA appearing to maintain a stronghold in Bihar politics.
