A sinkhole forced closures on freeway ramps in Detroit that are expected to last a week.
A sinkhole developed as of Tuesday, Nov. 11, on the northbound and southbound ramps from the Southfield Freeway, or M-39, to eastbound Interstate 96, according to a release from the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The ramps join at the location.
As such, road repairs will keep the ramps closed for about a week.
During that time, northbound Southfield Freeway traffic trying to use eastbound I-96 can instead detour to westbound I-96, then take exits like Evergreen Road or Outer Drive to turnaround and take eastbound I-96 local and express.
Southbound Southfield Freeway traffic can’t use I-96 local lanes, but can still take the express lanes, with the first exit to get off being Davison or M-
