CLEVELAND, Ohio - A federal criminal case surrounding the murder of a mail carrier in Warren could face delays due to the government shutdown, according to a recent court filing.

Attorneys representing one of the men charged, Thomas Sledge, have asked the court to postpone a scheduled witness testimony, citing financial and staffing hardships caused by a lapse in government funding and current national travel issues.

Jonte Davis, 33, was an on-duty USPS Letter Carrier in Warren when he was fatally shot in March 2024. He was found inside his postal van after witnesses reported hearing gunshots.

Two men, Thomas Sledge, 44, of Youngstown, Ohio, and Kaprise Sledge, 24, of Warren, were indicted in October 2024 in connection with the killing.
