Jon Stewart slammed Democrats for caving on the government shutdown on "The Daily Show."

Jon Stewart has a bone to pick with the Democratic Party.

On the Nov. 10 episode of "The Daily Show," the comedian unleashed a fiery tirade against Democrats who supported a deal to end the ongoing government shutdown.

The monologue came after the U.S. Senate this week voted to pass a funding package to end the longest government shutdown in history. Seven Democrats and one independent voted for the measure, which now heads to a vote in the House of Representatives.

Stewart expressed disbelief on "The Daily Show" that Democrats "caved on the shutdown, not even a full week removed from the best election night results they've had in years," referring to Democrats sweeping the recent 2025 elections.

In particular, the comedian was outraged at the Democrats who supported the deal despite failing to secure an agreement to extend expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies like the party demanded. Instead, the deal promises a December vote on the subsidies.

"Democrats, you sold out the entire shutdown – not to get what you wanted, but for a promise to not get what you wanted later," Stewart said, adding, "What good does a promise of a Senate vote even do for you, Democrats? You don't control the Senate!"

Stewart went on to play clips of Democrats like Sen. Tim Kaine making comments on cable news that seemed to suggest they wouldn't support to deal to end the shutdown, only for Stewart to reveal they did, in fact, support it.

"This is a world-class collapse by Democrats," he said, concluding that they "squandered their leverage, sapped their voters' enthusiasm and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory."

During his segment, Stewart also snuck in a dig at "Christy," the sports biopic starring Sydney Sweeney that had one of the worst opening weekends in box office history.

"You had the wind at your back," Stewart said, addressing Democrats. "Election victories all over the country. The new Sydney Sweeney movie, box office bupkis! Apparently, her new MAGA fan base didn't show up in droves to see a biopic about a lesbian professional boxer who overcomes domestic violence to live her truth. Who could have seen that coming?"

Other late-night hosts expressed similar frustration with the Democratic Party in their coverage of the shutdown deal.

On "Late Night," Seth Meyers told viewers, "Look, no one likes a shutdown, but this is the worst way to cave. Democrats had Trump on the ropes. Voters were on their side." Stephen Colbert also joked on "The Late Show," "So yes, the shutdown may have been long and painful for millions of Americans, but at least it achieved jack squat."
