A South Korean appeals court has overturned the sexual misconduct conviction of Squid Game actor O Yeong-su .
The Suwon District Court overturned a lower court’s ruling that found the 81-year-old guilty of hugging and kissing a woman on the cheek against her will during a regional tour for a play in 2017, according to Korean news agency Yonhap . O was charged in 2022.
The appellate court said that there is suspicion that the actor harassed the woman, noting the fact she received counseling for sexual violence six months after the incident and received an apology from O at her request. The court also noted it was possible that the woman’s memory may have been distorted over time, and acknowledged the need to protect the defendants if doubts exist.
