WASHINGTON, D.C. — On the 30th day of the federal government shutdown — and just days before the start of open enrollment for health coverage — U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., warned Oct. 30 that continued congressional inaction could cause health insurance premiums to soar for thousands of Washington residents.

Speaking during a virtual press conference with state Insurance Commissioner Patty Kuderer, Murray said the failure to extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits will leave many families paying sharply higher costs for coverage in 2026.
