MADISON (WKOW) — A Wisconsin nonprofit that trains service dogs for veterans and first responders is getting help from one of its own.
Nicole Meadowcroft, president of Custom Canines , was recently paired with her new guide dog, Johnny.
Meadowcroft has progressively lost her eyesight from retinitis pigmentosa. She described her vision as "looking through a cocktail straw."
"If you imagine life with a blindfold on, it can be pretty scary for most people," said Meadowcroft. "But he makes it all better."
Johnny wasn't initially assigned to Meadowcroft. He was matched with a veteran, but when that veteran learned the president of Custom Canines needed a guide, the plan changed.
