From the moment Nico Harrison traded Luka Doncic to the Lakers, it was clear that the now-former Mavericks general manager was essentially staking his job on the trade working out. But in alienating the Mavs' fan base, Harrison himself became a distraction.
Even Cooper Flagg's mother, Kelly, appeared to want the Mavericks to make a change.
As the Mavericks battled in a close game against the Bucks on Monday, the Dallas players still had to contend with loud "Fire Nico" chants whenever they made a trip to the free-throw line. It sent the message that the fans were still latching onto Doncic's departure, and Kelly responded by retweeting a tweet that called for Harrison's firing.
Come Tuesday, the Mavericks did make that change amid their 3-8 start and fired Harrison. As for Kelly's retweet? It appeared to be a common sentiment around the Mavericks locker room.
The "Fire Nico" chants were a distraction that prevented the players from moving on in this post-Luka era. He needed to go.
Update: Kelly did take to Twitter/X to clarify her retweet.
