Texas Tech football coach Joey McGuire has spent the past month trying to drum up support for Jacob Rodriguez in the Heisman Trophy conversation. His offense, meanwhile, has been doing its best to get Stone Harrington into contention for the Lou Groza Award.

After Harrington made a school-record 5 field goals in 5 attempts during a 29-7 victory over Brigham Young on Saturday, Nov. 8, Harrington is 16 out of 19 this season, and — get this — Harrington and fellow Tech kicker Upton Bellenfant combined are 22 for 25. (For comparison, Trey Wolff was 20 for 22 in 2019, when he was a Groza Award semifinalist.) Harrington's résumé includes nailing kicks from 58 yards at Utah and 55 yards at Kansas State , both with room to spare.
