A eucalyptus tree at the entrance to Government House was deemed a "medium risk" that required maintenance work three years before its branch fell onto a school student, causing serious injury.

At the time, officials from Government House told journalists the tree had been assessed as healthy in the six months prior to the incident; however, a new report shows this assessment was not documented.

On February 19, 2025, a tree branch fell on a year 6 student who was on an excursion with Central Coast Grammar School.

The group of students had completed a tour of Government House and were standing outside the gates of the property when a branch fell on several children.
