NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Senate began a series of votes that will end with a final vote on legislation to end the government shutdown, as flight cancellations and delays continue to strand passengers nationwide.
Eight moderate Democrats and independents joined Republicans to move forward with a bill that did not include Democrats’ demand for a guaranteed extension of Affordable Care Act healthcare subsidies.
The bill would fund the government through January, reverse mass firings of federal workers and guarantee they are paid once the shutdown is over. In the meantime, millions of people are waiting for SNAP food assistance payments, and flight delays and cancellations pile up.
More than 2,200 flights were canceled Monday (Nov. 10), according to the tracking site FlightAware.
