The government has issued a statement on the leasehold reform which affects millions of households across the UK.
The Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act (LAFRA) became law after receiving Royal Assent under the previous government in May 2024, but many of its sections are not yet in force and will require 'further consultation and secondary legislation,' UK Parliament says.
The Labour government has committed to fulfil the act 'as quickly as possible', whilst recognising “the importance of taking the necessary time to ensure that reforms are watertight.”
The housing minister, Matthew Pennycook, set out the government’s plan to bring the act’s provisions into force in a written statement to Parliament on November 21, 2024.
