HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Houston Police Department said a 70-year-old man was critically injured when he was shot outside of a Walmart in west Houston Monday night.
HPD said it happened at about 11 p.m. in the store's parking lot near I-10 and the Sam Houston Tollway.
A lieutenant with the department told ABC13 the victim was coming out of Walmart when he was approached by at least one masked suspect.
He said the victim was ordered to withdraw money from an ATM in the parking lot before being shot in the chest once.
According to police, the 70-year-old was able to drive off before being discovered about a mile away along the I-10 feeder near Attingham Drive.
"The victim was able to get away," Lt. J.P. Horelica said. "A wrecker driver happened to pull up (and find him unconscious)
