OGDENSBURG, New York (WWNY) - As SNAP benefits continue to face legal battles delaying their release, one Ogdensburg pantry will be opening its doors more often, whether full benefits are released or not.

To Rose Sovie, the mission is clear.

“Help to get to the people who don’t have food, you know, and struggle to buy their prescriptions or eat. We don’t want to see that,” she said.

Sovie helps out at the food pantry at St. John’s Episcopal Church, filling boxes with food according to how many are in a family.

The pantry recently expanded its hours from one day a month to two. It’s now open every other Tuesday, amid recent increases in families participating.

It also hands out ready-to-eat homemade soup.
