KEOSAUQUA — Holding signs that read "No borders only love" and "Justicia para Daniel," Iowa City-based immigrant rights group Escucha Mi Voz implored Republican U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks to help halt the deportation of a Hills, Iowa, immigrant.

Before the Ottumwa Republican's town hall on Nov. 10, where she was pressed on a range of issues including aggressive immigration tactics under President Donald Trump's administration, Escucha Mi Voz held a news conference to protest the recent detention of Daniel Angel Meléndez by immigration agents.

He is an immigrant worker from Hills with ties to West Liberty who was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on Nov. 4 during a yearly check in Cedar Rapids.
