Target on Nov. 11 said it was lowering the prices of 3,000 items as shoppers try to stretch their budgets going into the holidays.
The cuts come as more shoppers worry about inflation, tariffs and rising grocery costs. Target said it would be lowering prices on food, beverages and essential items.
"From pantry staples and baby items to household essentials, these price reductions are designed to make everyday shopping more affordable through the holiday season," the retailer said in a press release.
Which items will get lower prices?
The price reductions started earlier this month and will continue through December. The retailer did not confirm a full list of items, but shared a sampling:
- Kraft Mac & Cheese 11 oz: Now $1.69 (was $1.99)
- Gerber Kids Snacks: Now $2.99 (was $3.49)
- Market Pantry Hickory Smoked Spiral-Cut Bone-In-Ham price per pound: Now $1.49 (was $2.49/lb)

Target Thanksgiving meal is cheaper this year
Target also highlighted its Thanksgiving meal for four that costs less than $20 before tax. The retailer said the holiday meal has its lowest price ever, USA TODAY previously reported.
"I'm proud of the way our team moved quickly to lower prices on thousands of items our guests need most," Lisa Roath, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer of food, essentials and beauty for Target said in a press release.
"It's important work that will make a difference for families managing tight household budgets during the holidays. And it's work that builds on Target's legacy of strengthening communities through the way we run our business."
Shoppers are looking for value
It is a good time for retailers, including Target, to be reducing prices, said Neil Saunders, a retail analyst at the research and analytics firm GlobalData.
"Target has rightly identified that value is the watchword for consumers this holiday season and many will be hunting around for the best bargains and deals," Saunders told USA TODAY. "More people than ever are now comparing prices across retailers, so Target needs to make some price cuts to ensure it is competitive."
Still, Saunders noted that among shoppers, "the price perception of Target isn’t as sharp as that of Walmart and other more value-focused retailers, and these latest cuts may not completely remedy that."
