One person has died after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Mississauga Tuesday afternoon.
Peel police responded to reports of the blaze at around 12:45 p.m. in the North Service Road and Asta Drive area, at around 12:45 p.m., officers said in a post on X.
Fire crews encountered “heavy smoke” and an active fire showing from a unit on the first floor, according Ryan Baird, platoon chief with to Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services.
Crews then located one person who was later pronounced deceased. Four other residents have been taken to hospital with injuries related to smoke inhalation.
The fire was extinguished, and Mississauga Fire crews and an investigator are at the scene.
