MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - Officers with the Murfreesboro Police Department helped return a child found wandering outside in the cold back to their home.
Police said officers responded to a report of a found child at about 8:15 a.m.
A nearby resident found the young child walking alone in a roadway wearing a diaper and sweater, police said. The child was uninjured but cold due to the 27-degree weather.
“Rutherford County EMS was called to the scene and evaluated the child,” police said.
Shortly after, officers found the child’s home. Contact was made with the child’s mother, who said that her older children had left for school while she was in the bathroom, leaving the young child in the room.
The woman told officers that she believes the other children may have left the door open,
