Bill Wright, 106, said Remembrance Day is a time to remember friends who went overseas and never made it home

As thousands of Calgarians gathered for Remembrance Day ceremonies across the city, residents at a Bridgeland seniors home paused Tuesday to honour one of their own.

Bill Wright, 106, is believed to be Calgary’s oldest living Second World War veteran, according to Silvera for Seniors and the Royal Canadian Legion Calgary No. 1 Branch

Having served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Manitoba from 1940 to 1945, Wright now lives at Silvera for Seniors’ Aspen Commons community in northeast Calgary, where residents and staff gathered for a Remembrance Day ceremony honouring veterans and commemorating the sacrifices of those who lost their lives in military service
