A 42-year-old Guelph man was charged after not giving his real name to police and a subsequent search revealed quantities of drugs.

The incident occurred on Saturday, at approximately 1:35 a.m., when officers stopped a taxi on Carden Street, police said, because the passenger wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Officers spoke to the man, who provided two different names and date of birth, before being taken out of the car.

After determining his true identity, officers found out the man was breaching a conditional sentence of house arrest. A search of the man revealed cocaine, hydromorphone and dilaudid, as well as more than $6,000 in cash.
