WATERBURY, CT. (WFSB) - Animal Cruelty cases are growing in CT. The most recent example? A dog found tied to a pole this weekend in Waterbury while in labor.

The dog, now named Cassie, was found by Animal Control after they got a call from someone about an abandoned dog. Waterbury Police are now investigating.

As of Tuesday morning, Cassie is recovering from surgery.

Surgery rescuers at Bridgeport Animal Rescue Crews weren’t sure she’d survive. They think she is about 4 years old.

“The story of Cassie is just-- it’s heartbreaking, but also because of BARC stepping up the way BARC does. We have amazingly gotten Cassie out of danger,” says Diana Urban, a volunteer with BARC.

Cassie was found tied to a pole in Waterbury over the weekend in the pouring rain on Cherry Street.
