LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ) - Communities across our hometowns celebrated America’s heroes on Veterans Day Tuesday. A parade honoring veterans and their families was held in Lexington for the first time in 25 years.
Lexington doesn’t hold a Veterans Day parade every year, but this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Rockbridge Area Veterans Memorial. Parade Chairman Bob Hopkins wanted to have the first Veterans Day parade since then and worked over the last year to make it happen.
“I organized a parade 25 years ago, and I thought this would be a good time to have another parade. So we’ve been working on it for about a year, and I had two or three main objectives that I wanted to accomplish,” said Hopkins, a Vietnam veteran who lives in Lexington.
