CLARK COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The first snowflakes of the season started falling Sunday evening. By late Monday and early Tuesday, Kentucky drivers were getting a harsh reminder about winter driving as snow turned to ice overnight.

Lexington police report that more than 70 drivers in Lexington crashed their cars Monday evening while navigating the snowfall. In addition, officers were dispatched to the westbound I-64 on Tuesday morning for a total of six crashes , all linked to ice on the roadway.

Road conditions varied across the region

Despite challenging conditions, some drivers found their travels manageable. One driver who hit the road early said he had no problems.

“I started out about five this morning, so the roads have been decent,” Michael Aakhus said.
