QUINCY (WGEM) - Quincy city officials theorize it was a recently installed pipe that the water main broke at the Quincy water plant.
In what can only be described as ironic, a pipe installed as part of the water main improvement project is theorized to be the cause of the water main breaking last week, and the subsequent boil order.
“Whatever happened, whether it was vibration which is probably the culprit, it shook that blocking just enough to get it off center,” Quincy Public Works Director Jeffrey Conte explained.
Conte said once the pipe was off center, the older pipe burst leading to a flood at the plant.
“It cascaded downward and blew off and flooded everything,” he said.
The pipe that burst is one of the last to have yet to be replaced as part of the city’s water main improveme
