With the historic government shutdown nearing its end, flight delays continue nationwide under a Federal Aviation Administration order meant to ease pressure on overworked air traffic controllers.
For five consecutive days, operations across the country have slowed as the FAA works to manage limited staffing and stress levels among controllers who have gone without pay.
In North Texas, one pilot is doing his part to help.
Marvin Bell, who flies from Grand Prairie Municipal Airport to McKinney National Airport, said he is adding miles and minutes to his work commute to avoid overloading air traffic control.
“I just routed my flight, and because of the shutdown, I didn’t want to bother ATC,” Bell said. “Flying under the Bravo airspace would have saved me about seven minutes.”
