A fender-bender inside a UPMC Shadyside parking garage turned dramatic when one vehicle crashed through a concrete barrier and was left hanging over the sidewalk on Tuesday, according to police.

The crash happened just before noon inside the multi-story Aiken Avenue garage serving UPMC Shadyside Hospital, authorities said.

A UPMC spokesperson told reporters that a driver rear-ended a parked car, pushing it into a concrete barrier that broke away and fell to the ground. The impact left the struck vehicle partially hanging off the fourth floor of the six-story structure.

Photos from the scene showed a light-colored sedan teetering over the edge as police directed traffic away from the area while crews worked to secure the vehicle.

Both cars were eventually towed from the scene, and the driver who initiated the collision was unharmed, according to UPMC.

Police continue to investigate what caused the crash.
