ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - Rock Island is celebrating their newly refurbished tennis courts at Mel McKay Park.
The refurbishment was made possible through funding from the United States Tennis Association - USTA (Official) in honor the Rock Island’s own Australian Open Women’s Single champion Madison Keys, city leaders said.
USTA Missouri Valley, youth tennis players from the Quad Cities Tennis Club, and Rock Island High School Girls Tennis joined the unveiling on Monday.
A special message from Madison Keys was shared by her mom Christine Keys, representing the Kindness Wins Foundation.
“It was wonderful to see youth enjoying the brand-new courts,” Madison Keys said. “These upgrades will serve our community for years to come and it all started with a hometown connection.”
