SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — LeConte Lodge has released some "chilling" numbers after freezing temperatures gripped parts of East Tennessee on Monday and Tuesday.
According to the lodge, it endured an overnight low of 3 degrees with windchills of -20 degrees on Monday night. Total snow accumulation landed at 7.5” around the Lodge with slight drifting.
"Thankfully, the sun is out, the skies are clear, and temperatures are set to increase rapidly over the coming days," the lodge said.
The National Weather Service also shared some unexpected data, saying that Mount LeConte had the coldest temperature in the entire contiguous U.S. after it hit the 3-degree mark Tuesday.
"That's the first time our forecast area has had the coldest temperature since they started keeping records back in 2011," NW
