GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Many families are struggling financially as they navigate food insecurity for the first time due to the government shutdown. A newly-founded organization called Grocery Buddies helped the Greenville community by giving out breakfast free of charge.
Sizzling bacon, fluffy pancakes, and delicious grits kept some Greenville residents full at no cost to them.
The free breakfast is part of Grocery Buddies of Pitt County’s initiative to feed families in need.
“We really wanted to feed our veterans, the community, and any children out of school. Our goal here was to just feed any and everybody,” said Ashton Nelson, Grocery Buddies co-founder.
