NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — New Britain police shared bodycam footage on Tuesday showing the arrests of the mother and aunt of 11-year-old Jacqueline "Mimi" Torres-Garcia in connection to the child's untimely death.
Torres-Garcia's body was found on an abandoned property in the city last month. The case has caught the attention of the entire state.
The video involves Karla Garcia, Mimi's mother, and Jackelyn Garcia, Mimi's aunt, who were both arrested on the night of Oct. 12. Jonatan Nanita, Karla's boyfriend at the time, was arrested a day later after an hours-long manhunt.
Police say Jacqueline was the victim of "prolonged physical abuse and malnourishment" prior to her death in the fall of 2024. Her body was found in a plastic bin behind a vacant house in October.
