On a chilly Veterans Day, Sydney Anderson visited the State Veterans Cemetery where her husband is buried in Middletown.

“It's tough to come here and I get all choked up, like I'm doing right now, but it's important,” Anderson said.

Her husband Ramon George Gaulke retired after 40 years in the Navy.

“Connecticut is so lucky to have this gorgeous cemetery to honor all these people who serve their country,” Anderson said.

But the cemetery is filling up with already more than 16,000 veterans and their relatives.

Most pressing is the in-ground cremation burials could hit capacity in a couple of years.

And a group of veterans is pushing for the cemetery to be expanded in the area.
